A jury recently awarded 78.5 million in a birth injury case. The child suffered severe brain damage because the OB did not perform an emergency cesarean section for 81 minutes. Placental abruption was suspected and an ultrasound was performed but the doctor noted the baby had no heartbeat. When verified by an ultrasound technician who was called in, the baby was alive. The hospital was found negligent for not maintaining or updating their equipment.
