Noting that suits related to breast cancer are the most common cause of malpractice litigation in the United States, Richard E. Anderson, MD, the editor of a book about the current medical malpractice climate, has compiled a list of 39 actions that put a physician at risk for being sued by a woman who has breast cancer. The list appeared in Medical Liability Monitor (6/2008). Here are the top five ways to get sued for breast cancer in each of three areas of diagnosis and treatment:
