I am so afraid that so much of what we use, both surgically and medically, is driven by the commercial motive.

I am so afraid that so much of what we use, both surgically and medically, is driven by the commercial motive. A lot of material is applied long before there is any evidence of its efficacy, and it does not retreat when the evidence fails to confirm efficacy.
Think about prosthetic materials, CTG's and a host of other interventions.
